Our Curriculum
BIBLE
The Jesus StoryBook curriculum examines the Bible as one big story with Jesus as the focal point. We go through Bible passages weekly and guide discussion on how the Bible comes alive in our day to day experiences.
MATH
This year we will be utilizing the ENVISION 2.0 Textbook used by surrounding school districts. This math curriculum is common core based, geared toward problem based learning, & critical thinking skills. Depending on your child’s understanding of math concepts upon entering the class, they will be using either the Kindergarten or Firstgrade accompanying workbook throughout the year.
READING
Our reading curriculum consists of 2 areas: comprehension and fluency.
Comprehension involves learning new vocabulary, being able to retell information, reading nonfiction, making connections to other stories and their own lives. Fluency involves understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds; knowing and applying grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words; and reading emergent-reader texts with purpose and understanding.
WRITING
Our writing curriculum builds on skills that use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to convey their thoughts. Children will begin the year learning how to write solely with pictures and will slowly begin learning to sound out words, incorporate sequence and use basic writing styles like narratives, how to texts, and small fiction stories. Children also learn beginning grammar mechanics.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES
Our science and social studies component of our program fosters our students’ innate curiosity by exploring concepts about the world, life sciences, geography, our environment, history, and our surrounding social structures.
